Evolution of sports

Strange sports

By: Nathaly Sarmiento

Chessboxing
This sport each time is more popular in a ring by alternating two minutes of boxing and four of chess and breaking one minute until complete twelve rounds.
Actually the world champion is Nikolai Shazin who is 19 years old.  The most famous champion of this kind of sport is Tihomir Dovramadjiev; Bulgarian. Also, he has been winner in his country.

Korfball
From the Netherlands, this has more of one century. In that sport two teams play each one consisting in four male and four female, they start to play in pairs. The ball is like a soccer´s ball. A korfball match consists in two periods of 30 minutes with a break of 10 minutes in between periods. The purpose of this sport is that players score by throwing the ball through the opponent´s basket.

Bandy

It’s like hockey, but in this sport is used a ball instead of disc. It is playing on ice too. Here, there is two teams with 11 players each one and they pursue a ball using sticks. The Bandy´s rules are similar to soccer.

Between beach and the tradition is the Bossaball.

Bossaball is a volleyball game, played in a blown-up castle with a elastic bed. It has roots of sports like volleyball, soccer and capoeira. It is from Spain and it’s played between two teams from 4 to 5 people.
The game´s objetive is to get the ball fallen in the opponent´s floor.  The players never can touch the net and is allowed a maximum of 5 hits for each team.

Kabaddi
South Asian sport. Derived from the Tamil Word கை-பிடி, it means something like ‘Holding Hands’. In a swimming pool, two teams are separated and each member of these groups has to be a ‘raider’ into the other half by tackling memebers of the opposite half. After that, the ‘raider’ has to hold his breath when he’s returning to his on half and he must chant  the word ‘Kabaddi’. He must touch any of his opponents or he will be declared as ‘Out’.

Evolution of anime

Anime. According to some geeky experts, anime didn't evolve since the creation of animation. On the other hand, some people think anime has evolved a lot. What do you think?

Evolution of anime according to geeky-hater/old-fashioned otakus

First of all we need to think about it. Anime is an idea developed by itself and right now there are a lot of fans around the world, calling themselves as 'Otakus' and using anime as their lifestyle. But, does anime evolve in an interesting way? Let's see...

芋川椋三玄関番の巻 (Imokawa Mukuzō Genkanban no Maki a.k.a. The Story of the Concierge Mukuzo Imokawa)

In 1917 first professional anime came to a private viewing renewed form of art. Made by Oten Shimokawa, Imokawa... was one of the oldest animation type showed for certain people. Plot itself is unknown because there are no records of costumers who viewed it. But, in 1917 Junichi Kouchi made Namakura Gatana ((なまくら刀), a Japanese clip found in an antique shop in Osaka in March 2008. Its plot was based in a 2 minutes silent clip which tells the story of a samurai's purchase of a dull-edged sword. Here's the story, by courtesy of youtube.com:

Namakura Gatana - 1917

During the second world war, around 1930, Japan was delighted with cultural nationalism. So, national affiliations were made in animes too. That was the case of Mitsuyo Seo and his prime opus: 桃太郎の海鷲 (Momotarō no Umiwashi or Momotarō's Sea Eagles). Produced in 1942 and released on March 25, 1943, this anime was a propaganda film of 37 minutes! A Momotaro is a hero in Japanese folk and it's commonly translated as 'Peach Boy'. The very offensive film is the story of Peach boy (Momotaro) which struggles with Far Eastern warriors (pictured as animals). In the attack of Pearl Harbor American and British soldiers were represented as demons. But Momotaro's adventures was not the only animation in these times:

After these dark times, anime's story was turned 360 degrees by changing their plots into a more human, mature and (on the other side) interesting and white stories where morals were the main topic in itself without diminishing cultural issues (still popular in animes right now). In 1948, Toei animation's ideas was shown and they produced the first colour anime film in 1958 called 白蛇伝 (Hakujaden, The Tale of the White Serpent). Also, this film made a breach in pop culture because this was the first animation released in America under the name of 'Panda and the Magic Serpent). This anime was an adaptation of a Chinese legend which existed in oral tradition. The story by clicking here.

American version is here:

Where does the Panda come into play? I still don't know it either...

After that, Toei made two of the most important series of all time:

ドラゴンボール, Doragon Bōru. A.k.a. Dragon Ball, 1986

And:

美少女戦士セーラームーン, Bishōjo Senshi Sērāmūn. A.k.a. Sailor Moon, 1992

1970 was a dark time for anime. Television were the hardest part for these animation companies who suffered a boring decade and a lot of bankrupts. Toei's personal were reduced but they're still on business and they have the honor of being one of the most important anime pioneers as we can see in this chart (courtesy of wikipedia):

On the other hand, first MECHA series (such as Mazinger and Gundam) were introduced by manga companies. And with other titles well-known in Japan and still known and embraced by some otakus and I.

In 1980, space operas were into open space in Japan. Why these types of operas were the mainstream in these ages? That was due to Star Wars commercial success of course. All kind of aircrats crossed the outer space by giving lots of entertaining and touching stories. Actually, space operas and mecha are still involved in otaku culture. In these years, a company called Daicon films (later Gainax) were founded and they're still on production. Also, sports anime and worldwide success Akira were born in that decade.

宇宙戦艦ヤマト, Uchū Senkan Yamato (or Space Battleship Yamato/Cosmoship Yamato)

Mechas right now:

ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:Q, Shin Seiki Evangerion: Q (Neon Genesis Evangelion: Evangelion 3.0 Q)

Since 1990, anime changed in a very dramatic turn of events. Still lots of companies are producing (in massive development) tons of anime. But the most dreadful series came to light since this year. Censorship and rates were made for new animes because there was no room for all audiences. That's the case of Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) and its philosophical questions. What is happiness? Does this so-called god exist? Who are you?. Experimental anime such as Serial Experiments Lain, Boogiepop Phantom and Ghost in the Shell for instance. Eroguro, Seinen and adult series were born as industry and they're still on top.

Ero-guro anime: Everything is Peaceful (late 2000)

In series such as Gantz, heroes are dead from the very beginning. All kinda guts are served in a dish called 'survival' of course.

Concluding. I'm used to watch anime series since I was 10 or less. Anime has got a lot of lessons to teach you but, such as internet it can help you and you can share with other people knowing there's a lot of debauchery in there too. Still, viewer discretion is advised.
